The Bishnupriya Manipuri people belong to a linguistic minority ethnic group from spread throughout the north eastern states of Assam, Manipur, Tripura in India, as well as the Sylhet division of Bangladesh. Listed under the Endangered Languages and with a population of less than one hundred thousand, this community faces risk of losing their ethnical identity unless steps are taken to preserve and uplift their traditional aspects.
